Wait to Check your Yahoo Backlinks
Yesterday Yahoo posted an "alert" of sorts on their Yahoo Search Blog concerning the results we have been receiving while checking links via the Site Explorer lately. To summarize for anyone just catching this...Yahoo has been displaying 2 sets of link results for sites dependent on whether or the the user is logged in. I actually did not consider that this was a glitch, but rather a depreciated result for non-members. Apparently however, it was in fact a bug and is already being repaired.
What you need to know is that even though the counts were apparently inaccurate, the displayed results were unharmed. So if you we looking for a specific backlink and found it...It does in fact exist, no worries. There may be some that were just not displayed.
Yahoo has stated that link data counts from 10/11/07 through next week (so like 11/03/07) should be disregarded. This brings to mind an important rule using SEO tools, if the results are not what you have historically seen for the page or site...You might just do a manual check or verify with another tool. When checking a new site or one you have no history with it is definitely better to use at least 2 methods of measuring SEO metrics. **NOTE: Watch for sites utilizing the "same" protocol, database, or program for their tools. It is quite common for SEO tools to be branded and distributed.
